Costa Acquitted of Murder,
Charged with Manslaughter
For more than 20 months, the
Posca family has relived the tragic
death of 12-year-old Angelina Posca
and her 58-year-old father, Angel, in
a Pasadena courtroom.
The fate of the big-rig truck
driver who took their lives in the
accident on the corner of Angeles
Crest Highway and Foothill
Boulevard will soon be determined.
Marcos Costa was convicted of two
counts of vehicular manslaughter
and three counts of reckless driving,
but acquitted of two second-degree
murder charges for driving his outof-
control truck into several vehicles
on April 1, 2009.

Society Kiwanis Club Hears From KNBC TV Anchor
With a smile as wide as her
native State of Texas where she
was born the daughter of a San
Antonio police officer, KNBC
Channel 4 News anchor Kathy
Vara shared her experiences as a
newscaster with members of the
La Cañada Kiwanis Club recently
at their regular luncheon meeting
held at Descanso Gardens.
Vara said that she always
wanted to be a newscaster and
began her career at Mortech College, where she hosted a 30- minute newscast

Sports Local Softball Qualifies for Nationals
La Cañada Flintridge 16-andunder
softball team, the LC
Wildfire, recently finished third in
the State Western ‘B’ district
touranement in Palmdale to qualify
for nationals in Arizona, which
began earlier this week.
The Wildfire won four of six
games and outscored opponents 29-
18.
Solid pitching from Shiyin Lim
and a slew of extra base hits propelled
the local squad to a 7-5 victory.
