LCHS Track Athletes Win at Rio Hondo League Finals The La Canada High School track team made a strong showing this week at the Rio Hondo League Finals. Three members of the boys’ team won their distance races: Chris Bruegge (800 meters, 2:02.29), Jake Matthews (1,600, 4:50.16) and Will Zentmyer (3,200, 10:16.87). “Obviously I’m really happy with their performance,” said LCHS Asst. Coach Tony Haynes. “They have been very consistent in their racing. “Chris Bruegge’s work ethic and dedication set an example for the rest of the team to follow. He has been outstanding. “Jake and Will have unbelievable potential,” Haynes added. “They’re going to be huge for us next year. They’re both highly motivated and great athletes. They are going to be our team captains next year.” Paul Park turned in a fine performance in the 800, finishing in 2:05.50 which qualified himfor the CIF prelims. In discus, Justin Luthey and Ty Fleming finished in the top three, with distances of 107 feet, 6 inches, and 106 feet, 11 inches, respectively. For the girls’ team, new runner Jessica Lam (1,600 m, 5:38.78) qualified for the CIF prelims and Diane Kerchof cleared 4 feet, 10 inches, on the high jump.
