Groundbreaking Ceremony Inaugurates Town Center

“Dreams come true” was the theme Saturday as dozens of La Cañada Flintridge residents, business people and dignitaries gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to inaugurate construction of the new Town Center development. Participants were handed spades and hard hats and encouraged to dig a symbolic shovel of dirt on the site of the future shopping center. The 11.73-acre development, the largest in the history of LCF, was in the making for many years and welcomed by all who attended, many of whom were directly involved in the planning and approval process. Darren Mattix of Mattix Development Partners welcomed all attendees, including members of the City Council... Full Story

Local Fire Station 82 Remodeling Underway

Firefighters at Los Angeles County Fire Station 82 are currently sleeping in two trailers parked in the station’s parking lot while the old sleeping quarters in the station are being remodeled. They also have a temporary restroom facility attached to the trailers. The station was built in 1956, and the 51-year-old sleeping quarters was one large dorm with one shower. When the old quarters were built, it did not take them into account. Everyone here is anxious for....Full Story

The gamble more than paid off. La Nuit de Jeux, which was held at the California Club courtesy of club member Alyce Williamson, raised more than $300,000 to benefit the Pasadena Symphony’s concerts and educational outreach programs. “We’re very grateful that so many members of the community... Malik Leads Spartans to State Semifinals, Pauley Pavilion

Behind another stellar team defensive effort and a superstar performance from senior forward Adam Malik, the La Cañada High School boys’ basketball team defeated No. 3-seeded Mission Bay of San Diego, 65-58, last Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the CIF State Division III playoffs. With the win in front of a capacity crowd at LCHS, the secondseeded Spartans (30-3 record) advanced to the State Southern Regional final for the first time in the school’s 44-year history. LCHS will face top-ranked Lakewood Artesia this Saturday at noon at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion. (The winner of that game will play the Northern Regional champion in the state Division III title game in Sacramento on March 24.) The Spartans got off to a rough start against Mission Bay...Full Story
