Yetnechian, Sean Mintie, Dario Civon, Matt Alegria and Sean Leddie.
The La Cañada High freshman
boys’ basketball team, under the
direction of Ray O’Brien, ended the
summer season 24-2.
The team began the summer
defeating Harvard-Westlake, and
then played their first tournament in
Redondo Beach. They lost one game
and ended the tournament in third
place, despite missing one of their
starting forwards.
They then competed in the
Burbank Tournament, advancing to
the finals against a well-rested
Harvard-Westlake team. Harvard-
Westlake played one less game than
LCHS, and was able to defeat
LCHS.
The freshman boys would
bounce back from their championship
loss and were a force to be
reckoned with at the Hart
Tournament. The team would ultimately
advance to the final and to
win the championship.
LCHS went on to play in the
Burroughs league, where they had a
chance of revenge against Harvard-
Westlake. The local team would not
disappoint, avenging their loss and
defeating Harvard-Westlake. The
team would advance to the championship
playoff and capture the
league title. LCHS was undefeated
during the league.
The team ended the season winning
El Rancho High School tournament
to complete an impressive
summer season.
“The team really worked hard
and showed good team play,” said
O’Brien. “I am looking forward to a
successful regular season.”
