More than 150 Mountain
Avenue supporters took flight
recently to attend the first “MACK
Night In-ternational” and raised
nearly $17,000 for the school’s students.
The destination was more casual
than in years past and was held on
the campus’ courtyard but, if anything,
the success of the event
proves that parents, faculty, staff
and the La Crescenta/La Cañada
community unequivocally support
its future — its children.
This was the 16th annual
“Parents’ Night Out,” which has
become an anticipated event where
parents come together to make
friends, raise funds and have fun.
Proceeds from the event will support
the campaign “Building For
Our Future” to ensure an optimal
environment for learning, including
maintaining and enhancing the
school’s library and computer lab,
staffing, materials and equipment.
“We are looking at supporting
things such as enhancement to our
children’s lunch and recess times by
increasing the number of handball
courts on the upper field and by
‘going green’ by adding grassy
areas to the lower playground and
kindergarten yard,” said Greg
Grande, MACK board president.
Passengers had their fill of local
culinary favorites: Joselito’s
Mexican, Scarantino’s Italian,
Korean Mothers’ Group’s Korean
barbecue and noodles, and Damon’s
burgers and fries. German cuisine,
including bratwurst by Shreiner’s,
sauerkraut by Kruegermann’s, Star
Café rolls and Diane salad and
dessert from Takes the Cake rounded
out the menu.
Musical entertainment and lively
rounds of Bunco were heard
throughout the courtyard and auditorium.
However, the liveliest portion of
the evening were the silent and live
auctions that fetched the lion’s share of money raised. The live
auction items included a rejuvenating
weekend at The Oaks at Ojai, a
three-day trip to almost anywhere,
a refreshing weekend at Big Bear, a
family pleasing visit to Universal
Studios and a stay in the “Shrek”
Suite at the Sheraton Universal.
There were also tickets to
Disneyland, dinner in the Blue
Bayou Restaurant and cash. Raffle
baskets from each grade level,
donations from teachers and opportunity
balloons sold that night were
also popular.
