were among those who supported the local Kiwanis Club’s sixth
annual Wine & Food Tasting on Sunday.
The Kiwanis Club of La
Cañada, in partnership with the La
Cañada Flintridge Educational
Endowment Fund and the
Community Center of LCF, hosted
the sixth annual Wine and
Gourmet Food Tasting this past
Sunday.
The event, which included a
premium wine auction, was attended
by more than 700 people at
Memorial Park. It raised funds for
Kiwanis youth programs and
scholarships, as well as long-term
funding for public school programs
and other youth services.
Attendees enjoyed samplings from
20 local restaurants and more than
100 different wines and several
gourmet beers.
“We are extremely pleased
with the success of this year’s
event and feel it was the best one
yet,” said Mary Gant, who cochaired
the event with Clyde
Hemphill. “The wine selection and
the tastings from the restaurants
were outstanding. And, of course,
we’re so grateful to all the people
who helped make this event such a
success.”
Joel Peterson, the event’s wine
chair, said “Lynn Tran of Le Petit Vendome was invaluable in putting
together the wide selection of
wines for the event.” Some of
Tran’s vendors included Wine
Warehouse, Southern Wine &
Spirits, Young’s Market & Co,
Frank Lin, Vitaluce Cellars of Paso
Robles, Honig Vineyard & Winery
of Napa Valley, American Wine &
Spirits, Megawine Inc., Pacific
Wine & Spirits, Maddalena
Vineyard Brands and the Henry
Wine Group.”
Rebecca Harvey returned as the
event coordinator and arranged the
participating restaurants, which
included Dish, Frank’s Famous
Kitchen & Bakery, Gourmet a go
go, Los Gringos Locos,
Madeleine’s Restaurant & Bistro,
New Moon Restaurant, La Cañada
Imports, Twin Palms, Crescenta
Valley Dream Dinners, Urartu
Restaurant, Bashan, Casa 425,
Nicole’s Gourmet Food, Masis
Bakery, Crepe Vine Bistro & Wine
Bar, and Gus - Grown up Soda. The silent auction generated a
large number of bidders on a wide
variety of attractive items.
Throughout the event, Andy
Roth of the Glendale Kiwanis Club
provided the musical entertainment
for the day with his band, Stunt
Road.
The La Cañada Flintridge
Educational Foundation Endowment
Fund continued its close partnership
with the Kiwanis Club of La
Cañada. “This was another amazing
year of generosity from donors
and bidders alike,” said Mike
Goldberg, LCFEF Endowment
Fund Committee chair. “I want to
thank the wine auction co-chairs,
Craig Miller and Kathy Waller, all
the Foundation volunteers and the
Kiwanians for their hard work in
making this so successful.”
Mayor Steve Del Guercio said,
“Once again, our community — led
by organizations like the Kiwanis
Club, the La Cañada Flintridge
Educational Foundation and the
Community Center, and all the
event’s volunteers, participants,
sponsors, generous donors and
attendees — has witnessed another
special event that highlights the best
of La Cañada Flintridge. It was a
wonderful day where our community
could gather, mingle with friends
and neighbors, and help to benefit
our schools, our youth and the programs
that serve them.”
