St. Francis Football Routs
Arcadia in Opener, 54-7
St. Francis quarterback Justin Sciarra (brown jersey) jukes an
Arcadia defender last Friday. Sciarra completed seven of nine
passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
The St. Francis High School
varsity football team clobbered visiting
Arcadia, 54-7, in its nonleague
season opener last Friday.
The Golden Knights (1-0) managed
to score 40 points in the first
half (34 in the second quarter) and
rested quarterback Justin Sciarra
and standout offensive playmaker
Dietrich Riley.
St. Francis rushed for 301 yards
and finished with 431 total yards.
Backup quarterback Justin Posthuma did not throw a pass in
the second half.
Sciarra completed seven of nine
passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Riley rushed for 118 yards
and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Running back Evan King had 59
yards and one touchdown on 10 carries.
Sciarra had one touchdown
and 23 yards rushing. Posthuma
also rushed for a touchdown.
Wide receiver Luther Walker
led the Golden Knights with three
catches for 68 yards and a touchdown. Malik Speed caught two
passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Chris Cabrera and Riley led the
defense with five tackles each. Ryan Younker and King had four
tackles each, and Chris Sember,
Matt Weber and Walker finished
with three tackles each. Riley
sacked the Apaches’ quarterback
and intercepted a pass. Ethan Davis
and Speed each returned an interception
for a touchdown.
The Golden Knights will face
Crescenta Valley (1-0) at Glendale
High School on Friday, Sept. 19.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
