Phat Energy Promotes Solar Power

Phat Energy, a supplier of renewable energy products based in the Foothills, has been quickly making a name for itself through an approach to solar power combining state-of-the-art technology and outof- the-box thinking. It has gotten the attention of one of the biggest names in American retailing.

The company has begun a unique pilot project with Sears to help homeowners go green while saving some “green” in the process.

Under the terms of the limitedtime program, Southern California homeowners who install a new, state-of-the-art Phat Energy solar power system will receive an energy and safety audit from Sears’ Blue Climate Crew (a $600 value) at no cost. The audit is designed to find areas in a home where power is being wasted, such as leaky door frames and back-drafting water heaters. Eliminating such power drains can help homeowners get the most from their investment in solar energy by maximizing the amount of power they are able to return to the utility in exchange for credit in kilowatt hours.

The aim of the program is to help people who install a solar energy system to realize a positive cash flow right away. “We have married the concepts of solar power and home energy efficiency,” said Phat Energy General Manager Philippe Hartley. “We’ve created a unique proposition for people who are considering a solar energy system, and by doing so, in association with Sears, one of the country’s best known brands, we believe more people will have the confidence to take the plunge.”

Hartley added that the program is part of Phat Energy’s commitment to promoting renewable lifestyles and the responsible use of energy. “We want to provide our customers with more than the ability to generate energy, we also want to provide them with an understanding of how to use that energy to their best advantage,” he said.

Hartley said that Sears’ Blue Climate Crew shares his enthusiasm for home energy efficiency and provides a comprehensive auditing service. “It is an in-depth, technologically sophisticated evaluation of the entire home system,” he said.

“The homeowner receives an analysis of his home with action items listed in detail and prioritized by urgency and cost.” Hartley added that Sears’ inspectors are trained through a program run by the California Building Performance Contractors Association.

Although a relative newcomer on the energy scene, Phat Energy, founded by Hartley in 2007, has a big vision: linking energy generation and efficiency in the mind of consumers by using state-of-the-art technology and by developing new and innovative designs for solar energy systems. Among other things, the company has developed proprietary online, power/cost monitoring tools that allow Southern California consumers to chart their costs savings both through the use of their solar energy systems and through any home improvement measures they take, including the Sears Blue Climate Crew audit. Those tools are available through the company’s Web site, www.phatenergy.com.

Phat Energy is located at 2715 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta. For more information, call (866) 797-PHAT (7428)
