Stardusters Jitterbug at Summer Dance

Stardusters Presidents
Peggy Touchstone and Jim
Phillips chose “June Jive” as
their theme for the casual
Summer Dance, and members
were encouraged to dress to
boogie at the recent event, held
at the University Club.
Attire from the 1940s,
including uniforms, was
encouraged. In fact, member
Jim Mramor wore his original
World War II U.S. Navy uniform
from 1944 — and it still
fit him like a glove!
Hosts for the dance were
Mary and Mark Herring. Their
committee included Polly and
Brent Allen, Fran and Terry
Buchanan, Lorry and Allan
Herbert, Shirley and John
Stearns, and Judy and Bob
Snyder.
The band Breakaway covered
the entire spectrum of
music from big band swing to
rock ‘n’ roll. The featured
dance of the evening, though,
was the jitterbug. Master
instructors Shirley and Brian Skeggs gave a special jitterbug
lesson. After a dance-off
between Joan and Dave Teufel
and Marilyn and Willis
Petschow, the Petschows were
named winners of the contest
and received a gift certificate to
Taylor’s Steakhouse.
Members and guests
included Elaine Alexander and
Paul Westmoreland, Edie
Askew and Jim Mramor, Fran
