Mansell Is Mayfield's New Assistant Head Of School

Mayfield Senior School, a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for young women in grades 9-12, has appointed Mary Mansell as Assistant Head of School. A long-time resident of Pasadena, Mansell served as Academic Dean at Marymount High School and most recently, as Vice Principal of Academic Affairs at Ramona Convent.

Mansell graduated from Stanford University with an A.B. in art history and English and received her M.A. in private school administration from the University of San Francisco. Mansell will oversee the overall school program as well as personally direct curriculum development and individual student's academic progress. Her many years of administrative experience with Catholic independent schools for girls make her a most valuable addition to Mayfield's administrative team.

Mayfield continues to offer a rigorous academic program set in a nurturing environment. The high faculty to student ratio of 1:8 and average class size of 16 allow each student to flourish in an atmosphere of close personal attention. The academic program includes 23 Advanced Placement and Honors courses. The school's renowned Conservatory for the Arts offers study in seven artistic disciplines: creative writing, dance, photography, 3D design/sculpture, theatre, visual arts, and vocal music.

Mayfield fields 18 teams in 11 sports and is a member of the Prep League, a division of the California Interscholastic Federation. (The school is also affiliated with the Interscholastic Equestrian League and Scholastic Fencing League.) The Class of 2005 achieved 100 percent college placement, with students accepted at colleges and universities throughout the United States including Yale, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Dartmouth, USC and all the UC campuses. A full 13% of the Class of 2006 has been named National Merit Commended Scholars.
