A New Orleans cooking class will be held Friday, Sept. 23, at Chez Cherie Cooking School (1401 Foothill Blvd. in La Caņada Flintridge) to benefit victims of the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
The class, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., will feature New Orleans specialties such as muffalettas, red beans and rice, and bourbon bread pudding.
"We just need to do something personal to help out," said Cherie Mercer Twohy, owner of the school. "Our love for that special place has been shared by students in numerous New Orleans classes in the past, and we want to give some of that back to folks who have been turned upside-down by this catastrophe."
School staff are volunteering their time, and Teresa Kelley, manager of Trader Joe's, has offered assistance so all money raised will go directly to hospitality workers who have been so directly impacted by the disaster.
Reservations can be made by phone at (818) 952-7217, or via the Web site www.chezcherie.com.
In addition, individuals or businesses who would like to provide matching funds are encouraged to contact Chez Cherie.
