The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated visiting Monrovia, 60-47, in Rio Hondo League game last Friday.

The Spartans displayed a balanced scoring attack, which was led by guard Mike McGlashan, who nearly had a triple-double with a team-high 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

La Cañada (14-3 overall record, 3-0 in league) led by a point after the first quarter, but the Spartans’ stingy defense gave up just eight points in the second quarter and enabled the home team to extend their lead to seven at halftime.

LC’s Rocky Moore finished with 13 points and teammate Mason Holle added 12. Jeff Grigg and Matt Faber netted eight points each, Omar Rady had three and Dario Civon contributed two.

Monrovia’s Jonathan Henderson recorded a game-high 19 points.

The Spartans will compete in the Southern California Shootout at Azusa Pacific University this Saturday. The Spartans’ first game will be against Brea Olinda at 10:30 a.m.
