The La Caņada Flintridge 14-and-under Gold team captured its first tournament championship of the summer season with a 5-2 win over Ojai Valley at the June Jamboree All-Star Tournament at Moorpark.

The win capped an undefeated weekend for LC Gold, which included wins over Westlake-Agoura and Newberry Park, and a hard-fought tie against Ojai Valley, the team they eventually defeated for the championship.

The weekend started with a 7-1 dominating win over Westlake-Agoura, also known as the WAGS. Selina Mohr struck out 10 batters in her return to 14U softball. Mohr also had a double, two singles and scored two runs. Catcher Aubri Thompson was also 3-for-3 at the plate, including a towering two-run home run. Brenna Gay, Michelle Musso and Michelle Grochow scored runs in the win.

La Caņada then played Ojai Valley to a 5- 5 tie. Trailing 3-0, LC rallied with a four-run fifth inning. Shannon Ritter, Raleigh Scharre and Dana Delaney each had important hits and Leslie Arreola smacked a three-run home run. Despite the tie, LC advanced to the semifinals.

The semifinal game against Newberry Park was another come-from-behind win for La Caņada. Trailing 4-0, LC Gold scored two runs in the first inning and four runs in the decisive fourth inning for a 6-4 victory. The winning rally included home runs from Mohr and Thompson, as well as key two-out hits by Musso and first baseman Kelly Berg.

Madison MacKenzie pitched four scoreless innings in the championship game to earn the win. Kelly Berg, Aubri Thompson, Shannon Ritter and Mary Peck all had RBIs to seal the victory. LC shut down the Ojai Valley offense, thanks to outstanding defensive plays by Madelyn Merchant and Musso, as each made three outs from their outfield positions.
