History and Charter. When the Outlook opened, we committed to our readers that we would provide full and unbiased reporting, with a positive and uplifting emphasis, on important events concerning our city, our schools, our sports and our youth. The Outlook has extensive, long-standing contacts with city government, with the La Caņada Unified School District and all schools in the district, and with sports activities at all levels in the schools and in other youth organizations. We maintain active relationships with the Crescenta-Caņada YMCA, Verdugo Hills Hospital, Descanso Gardens Guild, Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station, the L.A. County Fire Department's local stations, local artistic and performing groups and many other groups in the community.
Honors Received. The Outlook is the only local newspaper that has received the prestigious Les Tupper Community Service Award, named in honor of the late Leslie Tupper, a prominent La Caņada Flintridge citizen and public servant. Since 1969, this award has been presented annually to organizations and individuals who provide exceptional support for charitable programs and community projects. The Outlook is the only local newspaper to be honored by the PTA in its 70-year history with the PTA Founders Day Award. The newspaper also received the outstanding Business Achievement Award, presented by the La Caņada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce.
Distribution of the Outlook. The newspaper is delivered every Thursday at no charge to approximately 7,500 homes and businesses in the 91011 zip code and an additional 3,600 copies are delivered to more than 100 locations with high foot-traffic volume in LCF, Pasadena, Glendale, La Crescenta and Montrose.
Management and Staff. Throughout the years, Outlook employees have had strong local ties and have current or prior involvement in numerous community activities and honors, including: Lifetime Achievement Award for Search and Rescue Service, mayoral proclamation for outstanding service to LCF youth sports, multiple Les Tupper Community Service Award honorees, LCF Education Foundation board members, LCF school PTA board members, chair of the LCF Parks and Recreation Commission, and thousands of hours of volunteer service to the LCF Tournament of Roses Association, Descanso Gardens Guild, Verdugo Hills Hospital and other civic organizations. Staff enthusiasm, a desire to serve the community and a strong sense of team spirit are reflected in the quality of the newspaper and the reputation it enjoys in the community.
